Periodontitis

Periodontitis is the developing of untreated gingivitis. It ia a more serious gumdisease that if we leave it develop it can be the reason to loose one or multiple teeth. Dental calculus when it stays for a long period of time it causes gum inflamation that can influence the bone surrounding the teeth causing it to sesorb. The teeth start to be mobile or shift. The early diagnosis of periodontal disease will lead to the best treatment possible. That's why the visit to the dentist for a check up once or twice a year is of primary importance

When do i need treatment?

Many times periodontitis can be asymptomatic without any signs or symptoms noticed by the patient.

Other times the symptoms might include:

  • Swollen and bleeding gums
  • Mobile teeth
  • Gum recession
  • Bad breath
High risk patients for gum disease
  • Pregnancy is a situation that might cause a flair up pf gingivitis or periodontitis due to the pregnancy hormone changes. It is advised the pregnant to visit the dentist the 2nd trimester of pregnancy.
  • Uncontrolled diabetes is a metabolic disease that makes the gums more prone to inflamation and reduces healing. With early diagnosis the gum disease can be set under controlled.
  • Smokin can affect in a negative way the gum healing and the gum health. Research has shown that smokers can present a more serious periodontal condition than non smokers
